Sir Edmund Hillary climbed the highest mountain on the 29th May 1953 with his climbing companion Sherpa Tenzing Norgay. The New Zealand icon Sir Edmund Hillary was the first person to climb Mount Everest, the highest mountain in the world. For 5 hours they tackled rocks and ice faces until 11:00 am. For his bravery to climb Mount Everest and charity work he is now the on the 5 dollar note.

On the opening of the school, forty students attend. There were many volunteer help that came from around the world.

The Sherpa required an airstrip but without roads it would be difficult to move the heavy machinery. One hundred Shapes cut down some bushies, dug out roots and leveled the land. The land was to rocky which would make to extremely hard to level the land.

Sir Edmund Hillary had went through some sadness in his life since his Louise and daughter Belinda aged sixteen died in a plane crash in 1975. But that did not stop this icon.

During the next thirty years Sir Edmund Hillary build 27 schools, 2 hospitals, 12 clinics, several bridges and an airstrip.

Heart Map Writing

I had a memorable time at my best friend’s birthday party.
My friends father picked up me and my friend Lila. It took
about 30 minutes to get to the party. There were people that
did our nails and hair. We played some games like Chinese
whisper and more.

We got to make our own glitter jar and put it in a small brown
bag. When I finished I realised I could have used every colour
and made it rainbow. I thought that the glitter jars were cute
because they were smaller than my pinkie. There were little
hangers on the lid of the jar and I was thinking that I could
make a necklace or a bracelet.

The people who came were me, lila, Salamasina’s cousin and
Salamsina’s friend. The cake was a big cheesecake. As I saw
the cake my mouth began to water. I loved every bit of the
party. For the nails my design was a purple background with
gems on top. We took some photos with the birthday girl and
we all got to keep one for ourselves.

As soon as the was about to be cut I just stared at it. When
I got my slice with candy on the slide I was happy. On the
table there was more candy and other treats. We played more
games. I never wanted to leave but I had to.

At least we got a goodie bag each and we got to choose
what we wanted. Salamasina’s mother took me back home
and we waved goodbye. It was the most memorable and fun
birthday party I’ve ever attended.

By Betty

My Dad is an inspiration to me, as he is always there for me
when I need him. My Dad encourages me to do my best in
everything I do. My Dad is always happy and full of jokes.
He is respectable. Admasu is mostly happy and he enjoys life.

Childhood
Adamsu was born on 29th November 1969. His birthplace was
in Gondor- Ethiopia. He has six siblings. Three sisters and
three brothers. His sisters are Adanech, Shashe and
Banchalem and his brothers are Belaynew, Mengstu and
Mulat. My Dad’s parents names are Haliu Birku and
Mebrat Stegaye.

Occupation
My Dad worked several jobs such as a truck driver, a farmer
and a waiter. During the six week holidays my Dad works as
a farmer and on regular days he works as a waiter. Admasu
worked as a truck driver for 22 years.

Qualifications
Admasu went to Mecanceyesus High School and received
a mechanical certificate. My Dad never got to go to university
because there were no universities during that time but that
didn’t stop him from learning.

Personal Success
My Father has had a lot of personal success in his lifetime.
He has had five children and has been married for 25 years.
My father was proud to  see my eldest sister and my siblings
grow up. Admasu enjoys every bit of life. He met my mother
Yengus at a party in 1990. My Father came to New Zealand in
2014. He made a new life for himself in New Zealand,  where

I think my Dad is the ultimate unsung hero because he is
always there for me when I need him and he cares deeply
about my education. My Dad always tries to fix the TV when
it breaks and does his best to fix it when I want to watch TV.

M.O.T.A.T. Recount

As soon as we reached M.O.T.A.T, I rushed out of my seat to get out in the fresh air. I felt like I was going to be in that packed bus forever. Our time at M.O.T.A.T. all began with morning tea. I could not believe my eyes as soon as I saw M.O.T.AT. Everything around me was so old and very fragile. There were many dolls that really annoyed me. Since it was my first time at M.O.T.A.T I was so excited. Our educator’s name was Kent.

 Scavenger
Hunt We first went to the fire station for a scavenger hunt. There was a statue of a man that I thought was real but it turned out to just be a statue. It made me so confused. We went through the village, it was like I went back in time to the past. We went to the school house. In the school house we had to stand next to the tables and sing the National Anthem, but we couldn’t sing it in Maori. I didn’t know why we couldn’t sing it in Maori. There were some Maths problems on the blackboard. The teachers had to check your fingernails to see if they were clean and if they weren’t clean they would give you the strap. There were old bedrooms, dolls and a long drop. There wasn’t much time to go to the pump house.

 Above and Beyond
We then went to the Above and Beyond exhibition given by the NASA organisation. There were all sorts of games like the bird game simulator, debris/robot and much more. I had so much fun there, but it didn’t look anything like the olden days. We took a photo near the entrance. I played a lot of games. There was also another school that came to MOTAT. There was also a magnet elevator that would drop a metal brick when you pressed a button. It made a loud noise that I thought I’d be crushed into small pieces of human skin.

Tram Ride
After a while we had a tram ride. The tram driver’s name was Rob. He told us about trams. I forgot some of the information he said about trams except that the tram we rode was the newest at Motat. One of best of moments of the tram was when we went out of Motat and went to Motat 2. We also saw baby pukekos on the way. On the to M.O.T.A.T 2 we went past Auckland Zoo and Western Springs. It was truly amazing, but we had to get out of the tram. Rob told us to take a photo before we went off the tram.

 Educator/experiments
Kent then came to the place where we put our bags and we ate our lunch. After we all ate, Kent took us to the room near the inventors room. It was called Discovery One. At Discovery One there were some tables and on the tables there were things like a hair dryer and a ping pong ball on one table, a wind machine and you could make a flying object. We used all sorts of things such as paper, match sticks, polystyrene and foam rubber. The other experiments were also fun, like one that you poured water into a cup and then put a piece of paper on top and tip it upside down. Other experiments included a string and between the string there was a piece of paper you. You had to go outside to the big fan. Then put the string close to the fan and tried to make sure that the paper would stay in the middle of the string.

Other exhibitions
After Lunch we went to other exhibits like the telephone room, the inventors room, the room with old cars. At the telephone room there were a lot of olden day telephones like rotary, switchboard and more. Me and Carolyn were playing round with the telephones. We also tried to call the other telephones but it didn’t work. We went to the car room. Me and Rhianne went up to the white deck and pretended that we were the Queens. In the inventors room there were a lot of things that I couldn’t believe that people were capable to invent. I certainly would not be able to come up with such things like that. I was disappointed that my group didn’t get a chance to go on the trampoline because it was closed, as the other groups got to play the trampoline game. I first looked round to see the things that inventors invented. I wanted to touch the things but I couldn't touch them. At least there weren’t any dummies there.

Conclusion
I thought our time at M.O.T.A.T would never end but in life there is always an end to things. I wouldn’t mind if we stayed there longer or maybe go back to M.O.T.A.T. I enjoyed my time at M.O.T.A.T and going to the exhibitions. Even though I was disappointed because my group didn’t get to go on the trampoline I still had a great time. At least I got to go the Above and Beyond exhibition. My favourite part about M.O.T.A.T was the Above and Beyond exhibition. I wish I could go to M.O.T.A.T during the holidays so I can visit the displays that I never saw nor tried out.
