M.O.T.A.T. Recount

As soon as we reached M.O.T.A.T, I rushed out of my seat to get out in the fresh air. I felt like I was going to be in that packed bus forever. Our time at M.O.T.A.T. all began with morning tea. I could not believe my eyes as soon as I saw M.O.T.AT. Everything around me was so old and very fragile. There were many dolls that really annoyed me. Since it was my first time at M.O.T.A.T I was so excited. Our educator’s name was Kent.

 Scavenger
Hunt We first went to the fire station for a scavenger hunt. There was a statue of a man that I thought was real but it turned out to just be a statue. It made me so confused. We went through the village, it was like I went back in time to the past. We went to the school house. In the school house we had to stand next to the tables and sing the National Anthem, but we couldn’t sing it in Maori. I didn’t know why we couldn’t sing it in Maori. There were some Maths problems on the blackboard. The teachers had to check your fingernails to see if they were clean and if they weren’t clean they would give you the strap. There were old bedrooms, dolls and a long drop. There wasn’t much time to go to the pump house.

 Above and Beyond
We then went to the Above and Beyond exhibition given by the NASA organisation. There were all sorts of games like the bird game simulator, debris/robot and much more. I had so much fun there, but it didn’t look anything like the olden days. We took a photo near the entrance. I played a lot of games. There was also another school that came to MOTAT. There was also a magnet elevator that would drop a metal brick when you pressed a button. It made a loud noise that I thought I’d be crushed into small pieces of human skin.

Tram Ride
After a while we had a tram ride. The tram driver’s name was Rob. He told us about trams. I forgot some of the information he said about trams except that the tram we rode was the newest at Motat. One of best of moments of the tram was when we went out of Motat and went to Motat 2. We also saw baby pukekos on the way. On the to M.O.T.A.T 2 we went past Auckland Zoo and Western Springs. It was truly amazing, but we had to get out of the tram. Rob told us to take a photo before we went off the tram.

 Educator/experiments
Kent then came to the place where we put our bags and we ate our lunch. After we all ate, Kent took us to the room near the inventors room. It was called Discovery One. At Discovery One there were some tables and on the tables there were things like a hair dryer and a ping pong ball on one table, a wind machine and you could make a flying object. We used all sorts of things such as paper, match sticks, polystyrene and foam rubber. The other experiments were also fun, like one that you poured water into a cup and then put a piece of paper on top and tip it upside down. Other experiments included a string and between the string there was a piece of paper you. You had to go outside to the big fan. Then put the string close to the fan and tried to make sure that the paper would stay in the middle of the string.

Other exhibitions
After Lunch we went to other exhibits like the telephone room, the inventors room, the room with old cars. At the telephone room there were a lot of olden day telephones like rotary, switchboard and more. Me and Carolyn were playing round with the telephones. We also tried to call the other telephones but it didn’t work. We went to the car room. Me and Rhianne went up to the white deck and pretended that we were the Queens. In the inventors room there were a lot of things that I couldn’t believe that people were capable to invent. I certainly would not be able to come up with such things like that. I was disappointed that my group didn’t get a chance to go on the trampoline because it was closed, as the other groups got to play the trampoline game. I first looked round to see the things that inventors invented. I wanted to touch the things but I couldn't touch them. At least there weren’t any dummies there.

Conclusion
I thought our time at M.O.T.A.T would never end but in life there is always an end to things. I wouldn’t mind if we stayed there longer or maybe go back to M.O.T.A.T. I enjoyed my time at M.O.T.A.T and going to the exhibitions. Even though I was disappointed because my group didn’t get to go on the trampoline I still had a great time. At least I got to go the Above and Beyond exhibition. My favourite part about M.O.T.A.T was the Above and Beyond exhibition. I wish I could go to M.O.T.A.T during the holidays so I can visit the displays that I never saw nor tried out.
